This bayonet is a M1842 meant to be fitted to M35/42 muskets. The blade measures 17” and the socket measures 2 ¾” with a ‘zig zag’ mortise. The locking ring moves smoothly and retains original screw. Overall, the bayonet has muted pewter tone with minor discoloration. ‘US’ is clearly stamped on the front flat shank.
This would be a nice addition to any collector interested in an accoutrement first used for percussion muskets and the last of the implements to be used with .69 caliber arms. [mk] [ph:L]
