Following the Russian-Swedish war (2/1808 – 10/1809), the Swedish military developed new weapons. Their first step was the French inspired M-1811 musket, which with small changes was basis for the Swedish smoothbore flintlock musket Model of 1815 in 22mm. This musket remained in use throughout many modifications: M/1815-20, M/1815-38, M/1815-45, and M/1815-49. This socket bayonet was the bayonet for use with the M-1815 musket throughout its long military life-span.
This bayonet measures approximately 21” long overall with 16.75” blade and 2.5” long socket. Top flute is 13” long. Blade has rounded shoulders and attached to socket by square stock elbow. Straight mortise with locking ring at rear edge of socket.
Condition is very good overall. Metal is bright with scattered darker mottling. Three sets of marks stamped on right side of elbow, “MR”, “IH”, and “CL”.
An interesting, early bayonet. [jet] [ph:L]
