This is an original Model 1855 socket bayonet for .58 caliber Civil War era Springfield rifle muskets.  Measures approximately 21” overall.

This specimen features a smooth, clean, and semi-bright metal surface. Only a few small dark “age spots”. There is some fine pin-pricking on the underside. Original, working locking ring and screw.  Large “US” boldly stamped on blade flat.

A beautiful example of the M1855 socket bayonet.  [jet][ph:L]
