EXCELLENT GERMAN MAUSER BAYONET AND SCABBARD WITH MATCHING NUMBERS

$375.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1252-03

This is a strong example of the standard German bayonet with full coverage of original gun blue on the hilt, blade, and scabbard with unblemished bakelite grips that are brown in tone.

The metal is smooth overall with only a tad of roughness on the face of scabbard hook. Blade shows full original color, has good edge and point, and has not been sharpened. Bayonet and scabbard are both numbered “9264 / 1.” The bayonet has an additional date and manufacturer’s code on the reverse ricasso: “44 fnj” indicating the maker was Alexander Coppel GmbH (aka Alcoso), Solingen. The small waffenamt stamp on the pommel that appears to read WaA549, but is a little indistinct along the bottom edge and light on the eagle above.

The “Karabiner 98K” Mauser bolt-action rifle was the standard German rifle during the war. Matching numbers are a plus with these, guaranteeing the bayonet and scabbard were not switched in the field or by a later collector to upgrade the condition.  [sr] [ph:L]
