This is the Model 1855 socket bayonet for Springfield rifle muskets. Measures approximately 21” overall. This specimen features a bright overall surface with a very few scattered small dark spots. Complete with locking ring and screw. Strong “US” stamp on blade flat. In very fine condition.
Original black bridle leather scabbard with leather frog. The body is in solid condition with only a few minor scuffs. The stitched seam is complete and unbroken. Brass scabbard tip is attached with four copper tacks. Arched buff leather frog does show wear and surface cracking. The frog is the seven rivet style, yet was only sewn to the scabbard. The frog is clearly stamped “WATERTOWN / ARSENAL / 1862”.
A very fine original set. From the Texas Civil War Museum collection. [jet][ph:L]
