This is the Model 1855 socket bayonet for Springfield rifle muskets. Measures approximately 21” overall. This specimen features a bright shiny surface overall with a very attractive blade. Complete with locking ring and screw. Large “US” clearly stamped on blade flat. In very good condition with no nicks and a sharp point.
Original black bridle leather scabbard with buff leather frog. The body is in excellent condition. The stitched seam running up the back is complete with only a few small chips of leather missing on the top surface. No crazing to the leather surface but, a few rough spots. Brass scabbard tip attached with four brass rivets. Arched buff leather frog is in very good condition. The frog is riveted to the scabbard with seven copper rivets. Frog is unmarked.
