Cast brass ribbed handle with bar and button type attachment mechanism. This mechanism is frozen and needs to be loosened and oiled. Surface of the handle shows moderate wear. Counterguard has barrel band on one end and quillon on the other. Guard is stamped with an “S.” The blade has mottling throughout its surface and some light surface rust. The ricasso has no visible markings. There does not appear to be any nicks on the blade edge or the short false edge. Leather scabbard is dry with severe surface crackling and some minor flaking. The back seam appears to have been strengthened by glue. The leather is still strong. Patina on the brass throat and drag match the grip of the bayonet. All pins holding the throat and drag in place are present, as is throat button for attaching to frog. Bayonet does not fully seat in the scabbard. It protrudes a quarter of an inch. [AD] [PH:L]
