This is an original Model 1855 socket bayonet for .58 caliber Civil War era Colt Special Model rifle muskets. Measures approximately 21” overall.
This specimen features a smooth bright finish overall. Metal surface is smooth and clean. Original, working locking ring and screw. Bold “U.S” stamp on the blade flat. “C & Co.” stamp is on the side of the socket opposite the mortice.
A very fine example of the M1855 socket bayonet from Collins & Company. [jet] [ph:L]
