This is an original socket bayonet for the Austrian P1854 “Lorenz” rifle musket, with its distinct four-sided blade and diagonal mortise slot in the socket. Bayonet measures 22” overall with a 3.25” socket. Socket features diagonal mortice and locking ring moves freely. A recessed “star” proof mark along with various numbers are stamped on the “elbow”. Light spotting overall.
The accompanying leather scabbard measures approximately 20” long overall. Iron throat features characteristic “X” opening for the four-sided bayonet. Throat has integral 3” long belt hook attached. Bottom of scabbard is closed with an iron tip featuring a small ball at the end. Leather body remains in excellent shape. There is just one small piece of leather missing above the belt hook at the throat. Stitching along the length of the scabbard is tight and unbroken.
A fine bayonet and scabbard for a Lorenz rifle. [jet][ph:L]
