Saber-style bayonet for the Sharps Rifle. The overall length of this bayonet is 25.25” while the graceful-looking, slightly curved blade itself is 20.25” long. Bayonet was intended for issue to the Federal infantryman with Sharps rifles.
The brass ribbed grip shows mellow tone and light wear. Locking spring is present but the “button” is missing. A miss-stamped and corrected serial number (36739) is found on the top flat of the grip. A single steel pin connects the cross guard and blade.
Blade has a smooth surface and no edge nicks. It is light gray toned overall with scattered darker blotches. Ricasso has a clear stamp of “1861” on one side while the other side has a strong “COLLINS & CO. / HARTFORD / CONN” stamp.
A clean bayonet for your Sharps rifle. [jet] [ph:L]
