Socket bayonet for use with the .75 caliber Windus Pattern 1771 Brown Bess flintlock musket. The distinguishing feature is the external spring catch screwed to the socket. This spring, sometimes called the "Indian Spring," was used to secure the bayonet to the musket's lug.
Bayonet measures approximately 19.5” long overall with a 15” blade and 4” socket. There is an “L” shaped mortise in the socket. The three-sided blade has the typical English shoulder on the back end. No markings. Mostly bright finish overall. [jet][ph:L]
