This is an original socket bayonet for the Austrian M1854 “Lorenz” rifle musket, with its distinct four-sided blade and diagonal mortise slot in the socket. Bayonet attached to the Austrian Lorenz rifle muzzle at the front sight. Measures 22.25” overall with a 3.25” socket. Locking ring moves freely. Proof marks on the “elbow”. Mostly dark surface overall.
Excellent condition, U.S.-made, leather scabbard for the above socket bayonet. Throat features opening for the four-sided bayonet. Throat has leather, two-rivet frog attached. Typical American brass scabbard tip. Leather body remains in excellent shape. There is light scuffing on edges of the leather. Stitching along the length of the scabbard is tight and unbroken.
An exceptional bayonet and scabbard set for anyone with a Lorenz rifle. [jet][ph:L]
