This is an original Model 1855 socket bayonet for .58 caliber Civil War era Springfield rifle muskets. Measures approximately 20.5” overall.
This specimen features a lightly pitted surface with fine scratching and a light gray tone overall. Scattered mottling. Original, working locking ring and screw. Light stamped U.S. on flat. Portion of Collins & Company stamp on top of socket.
Recently acquired from the “Old Stone House Museum” in Windsor, NY. [jet][ph:L]
