Saber-style bayonet for the first contract Sharps Navy Rifle. The overall length of this bayonet is 24.5” while the graceful-looking, slightly curved blade itself is 20” long. Blade surface is covered by patchy, dark oxidation and light surface pitting. Worn stamps of “_861” on the one side and “COLLINS & CO / HARTFORD / CONN” on the other side; stamped in three horizontal lines.

The brass ribbed grip wears a deep, even patina. Locking spring and button are present and work well. A serial number (42457) is strongly stamped on the top flat of the grip.

The brass throat is all that remains of the original scabbard.
