Knife looks to be made of the last 8.00 inches of a cavalry saber with the grip attached as a handle.
The blade meas. approx. 8.00 inches long. Visible at the base of the blade is the end of what once was the central fuller. The rest of the blade is flat and smooth to the point. Blade surface has a dark patina with scattered rust spots.
The grip looks to be from a Model 1840 cavalry saber. It meas. approx. 4.00 inches long with the leather cover and wire wrap still in place.
Overall, the item is 12.00 inches in length.
The blade is secured to the handle by a brass pommel. [ad] [ph:L]
