This sword was introduced in the French Republican year eleven (An XI) 1802 by the famous arms maker Nicolas Noel Boutet who was the artistic director at the Versailles arms manufactory.  The An XI swords were fitted with Klingenthal blades and hilted at two armories Klingenthal and Versailles and this sword has the scarcer brass hilt stamped "Versailles". The early brass and leather scabbard in fine condition and rarely seen today as most were re-scabbarded after 1816. The blade is the regulation 24 inches, and the spine is marked is dated October of 1814 and "Manfre Rle de Klingenthal" . A Regulation issue to the Napoleon's foot soldiers. A classic! This one could have been at Waterloo.   [PE] [PH:L]
