IMPORT M1850 FOOT OFFICER’S SWORD WITH HAT CORD – LAMBERT & MAST, PHILA

$425.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2022-1097

This regulation Foot officer’s sword as sold by Joseph H. Lambert and John Mast of Philadelphia, circa 1861-62.

The blade of the Foot Officer sword is so slightly curved that it looks straight at first glance. It is single-edged with a false edge extending back about nine inches from the point. There is a wide deep fuller which runs from the ricasso to the beginning of the false edge. The blade was decorated on both sides with floral and military etchings which are now well worn.  Just visible is etched “LAMBERT / & MAST / PHILAD”.  The blade is light gray with no nicks. Original felt washer remains.

The grip is gutta percha showing light wear to the raised “ribs”. Grip has a complete double-twist of wire. Wire is slightly loose at one end. The brass guard has a cut-out floral design and quillion. Knuckle bow attaches to a pommel with cast floral designs. All brass shows even dark patina.

A worn officer’s hat cord is fastened to the knuckle bow as a sword knot. This cord shows wear.

No scabbard.

A nice example of a Civil War officer’s sword with honest wear from use.  [jet] [ph:L]
