The drawn curved blade meas. approx. 36.00 inches long with a 27.50 inch long stopped fuller and 17.50 inch narrow fuller. The surface is bright with scattered mottling and no pitting. The edge has no nicks. The reverse ricasso has a worn mark of “W. WALSCHEID” over “SOLINGEN.” Leather washer is 100% intact at the base of the ricasso.
The hilt is in good condition and is tightly attached to the blade. The rewrapped grip consists of a turned wooden handle wrapped with black bridle leather and encircled with twisted brass wire all in excellent condition. Leather shows very little wear and surface dirt. Wire is tight. The pommel cap and guard are of the usual style found on the Model 1840 and have a nice untouched light patina.
The iron scabbard has two very small shallow dents just above the drag. Scabbard surface exhibits an oxidized appearance with light scattered surface pitting. Both mounts and rings are present as is the throat and drag. [ad] [ph:L]
