This rare saber and matching metal scabbard is an original English Pattern 1853 cavalry saber manufactured by the London, England firm of S. Isaac Campbell & Company and is so marked.

Saber is in good overall condition and measures 40.00 inches from point to pommel with a blade that is 34.50 inches long. Blade is almost straight and void of any etching. Blade surface is semi-bright with moderate scattered mottling and some very light scattered pinprick surface pitting. It has a single unstopped fuller that runs for 24.50 inches. Blade has a broad spine with the marking “ISAAC & CO.” stamped near its base. Weapon lacks any British military markings. Which is correct for British-made sabers produced for export.

The large, flat, iron-mounted hilt features a wide, flat knuckle bow with two branches for the counterguard and a quillon ending in a flat disc. Entire hilt wears a dark patina from oxidation and exhibits some surface pitting and minor, scattered surface rust in areas. Grips are original checkered leather that is riveted to the blade tang with five small iron rivets. Leather shows light wear only. Hilt is tight and retains 90% of its original washer pad.

Original, large, heavy iron scabbard is in good condition with a dark patina overall.  Unadorned, the scabbard is strong and tight with a smooth hard surface that shows light pinprick pitting. Scabbard has two ring mounts that are tight. Throat collar retains one of the two small setscrews. Scabbard shows two dents on one side and one dent on the other. Drag is strong and shows light wear.  [AD] [ph:L]
