Obverse blade etch is stamp of King’s head which is the mark of Wyersberg, and a hand etch of “W.H. / Horstmann & Sons / Philadelphia” on the lower blade; panel etch of a spread winged eagle. Reverse blade is hand etched Iron Proof / Panel etch with “US”. Blade has turned gray and no frost or gold wash remains. Scabbard is leather with one break just above the brass edge of the drop. Both mounts and drag are hand chased with foliate on both sides. Top mount on reverse has a blank presentation shield and middle mount has scribe lines where another presentation could be added.
