The drawn saber meas. approx. 41.50 inches from point to pommel. The blade meas. approx. 36.00 inches with a central fuller that is 25.75 inches long. The surface of the blade is very clean and very bright. There is no mottling worth mentioning. The true edge has several very small nicks. The obverse ricasso is stamped with “US” over “W.D.” The reverse ricasso carries a crisp makers mark of “AMES MFG. CO.” over “CABOTVILLE” over “1849.” The original leather washer is present under the counterguard and is complete.

The hilt has a leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. The leather shows almost no wear and the twisted wire wrap is 100% intact. The brass pommel cap, knuckle bow and counterguard have a nice light patina and nothing is loose. Top of pommel is stamped with inspector’s initials “J.W.R.” and “W.D.”

Metal scabbard is complete with throat and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard is bright with two very small dings and very light scattered mottling.
