The drawn sword meas. 38.75 inches long.

The blade is in excellent condition. It is clean and bright with no visible mottling or pitting. It meas. 32.25 inches long with a stopped fuller mea.30.50 inches. The edge is free of nicks. One side of the ricasso has a good clear marking of “MADE BY AMES MFG CO. CHICOPEE, MASS.” while the opposite has a strong “U.S.” over an off center “G.K.C.” over “64.” The first two numbers in the year are not visible and look as though they were never stamped. Original leather washer is present at the base of the guard.

The hilt is made of cast brass with pommel cap, single knuckle bow and double clamshell guards. Grip is also of brass but with a ribbed surface. Knuckle bow is stamped on one side with inspector’s initials to match those on the sword, “G. K. C.”

Leather scabbard is in excellent condition. It is strong with a tight rear seam and only minor scattered surface scuffs. Brass throat has the single long stud for attaching to a frog while the brass drag shows the inspector’s initials of “G. W. C.”

This is a very fine looking sword that would enhance any Civil War or sword collection. [ad] [ph:L]
