These broad bladed weapons could be used both as a dagger, chopper, or mounted on a pole for use a spearhead. Called a Hinalung, the handle is forged in one piece with the blade, simply folded round to form a hollow, tapering grip with open seam, in this case the handle is bound near the pommel and the narrow guard with two groups of broad bands of woven light brown rattan strips, leaving the central portion bare metal. The folded metal forms and narrow angular guard at the transition from the grip to the blade, a rather pleasing contrast to the curve of the blade edges which broaden gently from the hilt toward the point, then taper slightly before angling sharply to form a spearpoint tip. The blade has a prominent median ridge and beveled edges. This one is clearly mounted as dagger, using the inlet, open hardwood scabbard called a hikot, with the blade held by passing under a contoured wood bridge, held in place by rattan cord that would sometimes extend to form, or join, a belt loop. This is an interesting weapon and in good condition, with just light gray and brown spots on the obverse, but with heavier oil and resin stains on the reverse of the blade from the wood. Igorot is generally used to cover several tribes of mountain people on Luzon, the largest of the Philippine islands. [sr][ph:L]
