Sword has 28” blade which remains semi-bright with light scattered dark spotting and light oxidation. No nicks on the edge. Ricasso is marked “US / AHD / 1863” while the other side features the typically light “Made by / AMES MFG. CO / CHICOPEE / MASS”.
Hilt is made of brass with a ribbed grip. Single knuckle bow with narrow counterguard ending in a quillon. Very nice dark patina on all brass. Knuckle bow has inspector’s initials, “AHD.”
The scabbard is strong and very good. Leather has no folds or breaks with only minor crazing. Brass throat and drag are present, with just one brass tack missing from the throat. Inspector’s initials are stamped on the drag. Red wool remains in the throat.
An exceptionally nice musician’s sword with scabbard. [jet] [ph:L]
