The blade surface is bright with light scattered mottling and the upper third shows some light rub marks from drawing and returning the saber in the scabbard over time. Edge has a few very minor nicks. The obverse ricasso is marked “U.S.” over worn inspector’s initials that only shows the letter “A.” The date is also worn but reads “1862.” Reverse ricasso is blank.

The brass knuckle bow, guard and pommel cap have a nice light patina. The knuckle bow has a carved Roman numeral “XX” on one side. The leather of the grip shows some light wear while the twisted wire wrap is complete. Brass pommel cap bears inspector’s initials of “A.D.K.” which would match the worn initials on the blades ricasso. The leather washer at the throat remains in place.

The accompanying scabbard is a bit of a wreck. The scabbard is complete but exhibits numerous dents slightly “flattening” the scabbard, although this does not affect the draw of the sword. The scabbard has also been recently over cleaned and has a shiny and scratched appearance. The drag is stamped “A.D.K.”, matching the sword. Both mounts and rings are present. [AD/jet] [ph:L]
