Offered here is the lock and hammer assembly from a M1861 Springfield rifle musket.
A spread-winged eagle motif is stamped on lockplate between hammer and bolster cutout. To the right is clearly stamped, “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD”. Behind the hammer is the date, “1862”. Proper “C” shaped hammer with shield-shaped thumb cross hatching.
Hammer, plate, and all internal parts are included. Gun metal has mostly a brown tone overall.
