Offered here are two cocks (hammers) of the post-1809 style. Both are in good condition with one having light surface rust and the other more moderate areas of surface rust. Both pieces are complete with cocks, jaws, and jaw screws. One features engraved lines along the lower edges. These measure approximately 3.75” tall.
Early Brown Bess musket cocks have a “swan's neck,” but most of the India pattern muskets have this improved and stronger type of “double throat” style similar to some French muskets. The distinct "throat hole" beneath the lower jaw was originally built for the British East India Company and later adopted by the British Army in 1809. This is the iconic variation is found during the late Napoleonic Wars and the Battle of Waterloo. [jet][ph:L]
