An original U.S. Model 1861 Springfield percussion rifle musket lockplate is one of the most recognizable components of the typical infantry weapon used by the Union Army during the Civil War.

The piece is clean and remains semi-bright with the works and back of the lockplate being slightly darker. Face of lockplate is stamped with a lightly worn Eagle in front of the hammer, “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” under the bolster, and “1861” behind the hammer. All mechanical parts are fine and in place.
