This is an antique British musket lock plate in fair condition; approximately 7” long overall.
Marked with a crown, “GR” cypher, and “TOWER” on the face. A thin double rule is scribed around the lower, and left edges. A small crown-broad arrow stamp (indicating government ownership) is under the pan cut out.
The crown over a royal cypher ("GR" for Georgius Rex) and the word "TOWER" stamped near the tail, indicates manufacture or assembly under the Board of Ordnance at the Tower of London.
The original main spring remains screwed to the back.
The metal wears a dark patina with small areas of pitting below the pan cutout and behind where the cock was attached. [jet] [ph:L]
