ELEGANT FLYING EAGLE POCKET REVOLVER POWDER FLASK

$795.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 30-2232

This is a scarce flask and one of the most beautiful: an eagle in flight crosses to the viewer’s right with an E PLURIBUS UNUM ribbon in its beak and a United States shield at bottom. See, Riling #768. This is complete, in working order, has nice blue to the spring and thumbpiece, no dents or open seams, and some gilt finish on the collar. The body is mint, with deep, lacquered brown surface, just one small area of green coming up on one shoulder. This would dress up any of the pocket pistols of the 1850s, Colt, Remington, and others. The eagle is reminiscent of the one used on the Gobrecht dollar in the 1830s and revived for the flying-eagle cent of 1856-58, perhaps the inspiration for the design. [sr] [ph:m/L]
