This is another essential gun tool for the soldier. These screw-point tips would themselves be screwed onto the threaded end of the ramrod to remove a bullet stuck in the barrel, loaded with wet powder, no powder, or even below the powder in the chaos of battle, or simply ordered to be drawn instead of fired. It is a nice testimony to the end of the war that a number of bullets with tell-tale holes in their noses from being pulled rather than fired have been recovered in the Appomattox area.
This would display well with a soldier’s cartridge box, which featured a separate pocket for gun tools, etc. Exc. condition. [sr] [ph:m]
