This is the “Old Model” bullet found in the cartridge for the Sharps carbine and rifle. Bullet features an extended ring on the base to which the paper gun powder cylinder was tied. This is the bullet only. The Old Model Sharps cartridge had a folded tail like most paper cartridges of the era. The tail end of the cartridge would be sheared off upon closing the breech exposing the powder.

A photocopy of the label that originally accompanied the set of cartridges is included. This label claims the few cartridges and bullet were “found in Pres. Jeff Davis home after the War. From The Dr. Davis Collection.  12/17/1947.”

This is one Sharps bullet.  [jet] [ph:L]
