This flask is a classic American flask used for pocket revolvers, identical in style to those used with Colt 1849 pocket and 1855 Root revolvers, omitting the “Colt’s Patent” logo at top, but including on both sides the classic American eagle holding a U.S. shield across its body and clutching an olive branch and arrows at center. At top the rays of a sunburst rise in an arc between its wing tips and thirteen stars curve up the sides and overhead. Underneath is a crossed pair of revolvers. Both those latter elements appear on the Colt’s patent marked flasks as well.

The body shows wear to the brown lacquer finish and appears a muted, aged copper, though more gold than red. The brass collar is a bit brighter, and both show age spots. One side the body shows darker from the eagle’s shield down and there is a small ding at upper left. On the other side the color is more uniform, with darker spots in recesses. The spout, thumb latch, and spring are present and good.

This would be appropriate for several Civil War pocket revolvers, including Colts, just supplied by various retailers rather than of Colt manufacture.  [jet] [ph:L]
