Offered here is an early round ball gang mold. Made of iron this mold measures approximately 10.5” long overall. Hinged at one end, the mold opens to show four cavities to cast .69 caliber round musket balls.
There are two pins to keep halves aligned. The ends of the handles feature a number of “chops” which help would secure wood handles in place; wood handles are gone. The cavities are good with no nicks or dings.
Iron remains in good condition with only the slightest pitting and surface rust. One of the four cavities is cleaner than the rest and looks to have been cleaned to test cast a ball.
A very nice example of an early gang mold for musket balls. [jet] [ph:L]
