Regulation tan paper cartridge for the U.S. .69 caliber smoothbore musket. This is one of the typical cartridges of the Mexican War and Civil War.
Known as the "regulation" or "American military" style of cartridge, i.e., powder charge and bullet wrapped completely in paper, tied with string over the nose of the bullet, with the powder end being closed with folds to form a tail. Additionally in this case, the string is tied over the buck shot, then tied again between the shot and the ball and again between the ball and the powder.
Cartridge paper has a couple of rust/age stains but has a perfectly displayable side. The cartridge paper remains in very good condition with no cracks, tears, or repairs. [jet] [ph:jet]

Material related to Civil War military Chaplains is extremely hard to find. This is a commercially produced “officer’s style” haversack with a great stencil in white on the reverse indicating its owner was the “Chaplain / 15th Regt’ / Vt.… (2025-1851). Learn More »
