This is a scarce combination tool for the Burnside carbine. Combining a nipple wrench and two screwdriver blades, this would be carried by a cavalryman in the tool pouch attached to the front of his carbine cartridge box. Excellent condition.
The Burnside carbine was generally well-liked and issued in numbers only behind the Sharps and Spencer. Responding to an 1863-64 ordnance survey, a number of army officers rated it as second only to the Spencer.
This would make a key addition to a cavalry collection featuring a Burnside carbine. [jet] [PH:L]
