This piece is half of an early combination ball screw and wiper. A seemingly practical and cost-effective attempt to have one tool perform two tasks. Unfortunately, these did not hold up well under actual field service conditions and were generally discontinued by the 1850s.
Offered here is the wiper piece that could be used with a separate ball screw. This specimen has two very thick, and heavy wiper tines that spiral around. Threaded through the rounded base.
Measures 1.3” tall x 0.65” diameter. In very good condition. [jet] [ph:L]
