The first rods for Krag carbines were two-piece. The three-piece rods were introduced in 1896 and the carrying compartment in the buttstock of the rifle and carbine were accordingly altered to carry the three-piece rod and an oiler.
The rod is similar to the three-piece 1876 pattern, but with one slotted section and no swelled button head. These are original items, in good condition, with a few scattered patches of surface rust. These are essential “go withs” for the Krag.
Adopted in 1892, that rifle saw action in Cuba, the Philippines, the Boxer Rebellion and several “little wars,” until officially replaced by the 1903 Springfield, but remained in the hands of some national guard units and rear echelon troops into World War One. [jet] [PH:L]
