This is a fine example of an early .44 caliber Colt cartridge and its protective envelope. The is the “old model” bullet with a plain, untreated paper cartridge case pasted to the base. Typical of all Colt Cartridge Works paper cartridge construction.
These cartridges came packed in a protective paper envelope. A red tear-string was pulled to access the cartridge within.
