Rare .50 caliber Crispin pattern rimfire cartridge. This cartridge was invented by Silas Crispin who was awarded U.S. Patent #49,237 for “an improvement on priming metallic cartridges” on August 8, 1865.
A distinctive type of rimfire cartridge where the fulminate is contained in an annular ring nearly midway between the base and mouth of the cartridge. This .50 caliber version was intended for use in converted Civil War-era Smith carbines.
This example remains in perfect condition with a smooth and mellow copper patina. A rare cartridge.
