This is a nice piece to accompany any Burnside carbine. This has the characteristic ball top, pointed tip and cruciform slotted body of the Burnside tompions. They are occasionally seen in photos, but were a common item of issue to help keep carbine barrel dry and clean.
This would make a key addition to a cavalry collection featuring a Burnside carbine. Excellent condition. [jet][ph:L]
