Offered here is a very fine condition japanned tin filled with 100 “bulleted breech caps.” A printed paper label on the lid reads, “100 Superior BULLETED BREECH CAPS. / W. & C. ELEY, MANUFACTURERS, LONDON.” A smaller W. & C. ELEY, LONDON paper label is pasted to the side and once sealed the lid to the body of the tin. This small label was torn when someone opened the tin and has a large chip missing out of the center. Brown lacquer finish on the tin remains in excellent condition.

The small projectiles contained are approximately .20 caliber (5mm to 6mm) and are constructed with small lead projectiles seated on copper cases. They appear quite similar to Flobert cartridges with a less defined rim.

Born into a family of silversmiths and cartridge manufacturers, William Thomas Eley and Charles Eley took over their father’s business upon his death in 1841 and founded W. & C. Eley.  [jet] [ph:jet]
