Scissor-type iron bullet mold for large .71 caliber round ball. Measures approximately 9.5” long.
This mold shows such a high quality of construction that is likely a product of a Federal arsenal. The fact that it features a five-digit serial number backs up that suspicion. Two halves, joined with rounded nut and bolt; opens and closed perfectly. Cavity is clean and free of scratches or dings. Mold closes tight. A funnel spout leads into cavity. Sprue cutters between handles. Dark, almost blued appearance to the surface. One arm also stamped “No. 13” which stands for thirteen balls to the pound. A very fine quality bullet mold.
Rare to find bullet molds in these larger “musket” calibers. From the collection of author/publisher Dean Thomas. [jet][ph:L]

This sword was probably sold by Schuyler, Hartley & Graham of New York. The pattern is pictured in their 1864 catalogue in figures 13 and 16. Rather than have a standard blade, the lightly curved 32 inch blade has "B.K." (Battery K) on the left… (870-447). Learn More »
