Nice flat top cartridge for the .44 Henry and M1866 Winchester rifles or the Colt, Remington, and Smith & Wesson revolvers. This particular cartridge was manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. Two groove bullet, flat nose, “short” copper rimfire case with a raised “H” headstamp.
The Winchester Repeating Arms Company that evolved from the New Haven Arms Company was a prominent American manufacturer of repeating firearms and ammunition. Oliver Winchester reorganized and renamed the company in 1866. The firm went into receivership in 1931 and was bought by the Western Cartridge Company, a forerunner of the Olin Corporation. The Winchester brand name is still owned by the Olin Corporation, which continues to make ammunition under that name. [jet][ph:jet]
