Very nice, iron, scissor-type bullet mold that cast a single .52 caliber “Old Model” (a.k.a. “Ringtail”) Sharps bullet.
Mold measures approximately 8” long overall. Nippers to trim sprue are on the front end of the mold block and have no nicks or chips. Cavity remains in perfect condition with no dings. This casts a pre-Civil War style bullet with an extra band or “tail” extending from the base. This extension was used to tie the paper gun powder tube to the bullet.
Marked “32” on handle as it should for 32-bore which equates to approximately .52 caliber. For both the carbine and rifle. Condition of the iron is very good.
A rare mold for a pre-Civil War bullet type, that continued to be used through the war years by the Confederacy. [jet] [ph:L]
