Sometimes nicknamed the T-tool, these British combination gun tools for the Enfield rifle musket do not seem to have been imported in bulk, but are excavated “with some frequency” and were likely shipped over at the rate of one per case of twenty rifles. They seem, however, to have been widely used over here and likely not only by sergeants, a practice of the British army, who apparently believed privates should not be entrusted with too many means to take apart their guns. This is nice, complete example with screwdriver, ball puller, worm, vent pick, and a mainspring clamp on the side, which was omitted on the tools issued to British privates. Reference “Gun Tools” by Shaffer, Rutledge, & Dorsey, page 227.

The metal is smooth and has nice dark patina. It is a key Civil War gun tool and would be a nice addition to a P53 Enfield Rifle Musket, one of the most common infantry longarms, imported by both North and South in the hundreds of thousands.  [jet][ph:L]
