Brass, two cavity bullet mold for the .28 caliber Colt Model 1855 Side-hammer, also known as the Colt Root Revolver. Named for engineer Elisha K. Root (1808–1865). The revolver was a cap and ball single-action pocket revolver available from mid-1850s to 1870. It was made by the Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company.
The mold casts one round ball and one elongated bullet. Steel sprue cutter is attached to the top at the hinge pin and is clearly marked "COLT'S / PATENT". Cavities remain clean. Stamped “K” on one side of mold block. No dings on mold halves.
This is an excellent example of a .28 caliber Colt Root bullet mold. [jet][ph:L]
