A York County powder horn with characteristic convex wood base plug showing turned grooves, raised edges, and intermediate concave and convex rounded steps up to the central recessed depression. The base plug shows a pleasing medium brown color with some darker shaded areas, some slight stains, but no cracks or chips. The horn spout is turned to match with a deep groove between the upper edge of the body and raised band just below the tip that could secure a cord for a stopper.
This measures 6-inches overall with some larger gray-brown areas near the base and a few small light brown stains, but a pleasing light cream color for the most part . The size would indicate it was likely to be carried in a pocket or hunting pouch, so no need for a suspension staple in the base. There are no cracks or chips. The base plug is tight. [sr][ph:m]
