Measuring about 9-1/2 inches overall, this shows several pairs of incised lines on the turned spout. These are mirrored around the lower edge of the horn body, and then picked up again in a pair of more deeply turned grooves along the edge of the base plug, and a pairs of narrower lines around the bottom and upper edge of a convex band or step leading up toward the bottom carrying staple. The staple is positioned in a central dimple, surrounded by a dense series of concentric turned rings of ridges and grooves, with a chip-carved rope border separating them from the wider convex step below.
The horn shows some darker brown near the spout, where the upper staple is in place, and a lengthwise streak of brown against the largely cream colored body, down to the base plug, where it widens, showing some crustiness along the lower outer curve and small adjacent chips to the base plug. The tip of the spout had some lengthwise hairlines that were tightened by a small iron wire around the tip, that may be sitting in the uppermost turned groove of the spout. A small, old plug is in place. Please see our photos. [sr][ph:m]
