This tool, the M1863 combination tool, was used as a screw driver and cone wrench for Civil War-era rifle muskets.

Following the Civil War surplus quantities of these tools were altered for use with newer weapons. In this instance, one screw driver blade was ground down for use with the M1870 rifle and carbine.

Some traces of original blue remains amid scattered surface pitting. Unmarked.    [jet][ph:L]
